Most MTG proxy makers stop at a PDF. You generate a sheet, then you're on your own: find cardstock, fight your home printer's color, cut 90 cards by hand with a ruler, and end up with flimsy paper that warps in a sleeve and never sits flush against a real card. The other route — buying official singles for a Commander deck you're still tuning — gets expensive fast, especially for a reserved-list staple you only want to playtest. Neither option gives you a clean, durable card that feels right across the table during a casual game.

Snapshot is an MTG proxy maker that does the printing for you. Upload any card image or your own custom artwork, and we print it on premium 2.5" × 3.5" cardstock — the exact standard Magic size — and ship the finished cards to your door. No home printer, no paper cutter, no color guesswork. Every order ships free within the USA in two to three business days and arrives protected in a complimentary magnetic case. You get real cards, not a file to wrestle with.

Here's exactly how it works, what it costs, and the honest answer on where proxies belong.

How Does the Snapshot MTG Proxy Maker Work?

Three steps, no design software, no home printer. The whole thing takes a few minutes from your first upload to a confirmed order.

1

Upload Any Image

This is the whole point. Drop in any image you've got — a high-res scan of a card, your own original artwork, an alter you commissioned, full-art treatment of a staple, or a custom card you designed from scratch. Any image, any card you can imagine. If you can see it on your screen, you can print it as a card. Crisp, high-resolution files give the sharpest result, so pull the original rather than a screenshot of a screenshot. There's no template to fight and no sport or category to pick from — you control exactly what goes on the face of the card.

2

Size It to a Real Card

Your image is set to standard Magic dimensions — 2.5" × 3.5", the same size as a card you'd pull from a booster. That means your proxies shuffle into the same sleeves, sit flush in the same deck box, and feel identical in hand alongside real cards. Want a full deck of matching proxies, a single one-off, or a stack of tokens? Upload one image or many. Nothing about the format limits how many different cards you can make in a single order.

3

We Print and Ship

Once you approve your card, our production team in Des Moines, Iowa prints it on premium cardstock, slips it into a free magnetic case, and ships it free anywhere in the USA. Standard turnaround is two to three business days, and you'll get tracking so you know exactly when it lands. No driving to a print shop, no clipping a PDF onto glossy photo paper that curls the first time you sleeve it.

From upload to delivery, the process is built so the only creative decision you have to make is which image to use.

Why Use Snapshot as Your MTG Proxy Maker?

The difference shows up the second you hold the card. Here's what sets a printed Snapshot proxy apart from a home-printed PDF.

Upload Anything, Print Any Card

Your imagination is the only limit. A card scan, original art, a hand-drawn alter, a custom legendary commander of your dog — if it's an image, it becomes a card. Most proxy makers lock you into a database of existing cards. Snapshot doesn't. You bring the image, we print exactly what you upload, so you can build proxies and fully custom cards in the same order.

Premium Cardstock, Real Card Size

This isn't inkjet on photo paper. We print on premium 2.5" × 3.5" cardstock — standard Magic dimensions — so your proxies have the weight, rigidity, and feel of a card from a pack. They sleeve cleanly, sit flush in a deck, and hold up to real shuffling instead of warping after one game night.

Fast Shipping, Free Magnetic Case

Every order ships free anywhere in the USA in two to three business days, with tracking. And every order arrives in a complimentary magnetic case — the rigid kind collectors use — at no extra charge. Your standout proxy is display-ready the moment it lands, no separate holder to buy first.

Order One or a Whole Deck

Single proxy or a full playtest set, the system scales with you. Single cards start at $17.99, and packs run up to $49.99 — handy when you're proxying a stack of staples for a new Commander build or printing tokens for the whole pod. Bulk-friendly pricing with the same free shipping and magnetic case on every order.

Who Uses an MTG Proxy Maker Like This?

Proxies exist so you can play more and tune freely without buying every card first. Here's who orders printed proxies from Snapshot.

Commander and Kitchen-Table Players

Commander decks are expensive to assemble and constantly evolving. Players proxy staples, fetchlands, and reserved-list cards to playtest a build before committing real money to singles, and to keep games flowing at the kitchen table or in a casual pod. A printed proxy on real cardstock shuffles and feels like the genuine card, so the table experience stays clean even with a deck full of stand-ins.

Playtesters and Brewers

Before you drop a hundred dollars on a brew that might not work, you test it. Proxies let you run a new list dozens of times, swap pieces, and find out what actually plays well — without buying cards you'll cut next week. Upload the card images, get printed proxies, and iterate on the deck instead of on your wallet.

Custom Card and Alter Creators

Some players don't want a copy of an existing card — they want a card that's never existed. Upload original artwork, a custom commander, a joke card for a friend, or a full-art alter of a favorite, and print it at real card size. This is where the upload-anything approach shines: you're not limited to what's in a database, only to what you can imagine and put in an image.

What Players Say About Snapshot Proxies

MTG players consistently mention the same two things: the cards actually feel like cards, and they show up fast. Because Snapshot prints on premium cardstock at true 2.5" × 3.

5" size, proxies sleeve and shuffle right alongside real cards instead of standing out as obvious paper. And because every order ships in two to three business days with a free magnetic case, players who proxy a deck for one event tend to come back to print the next one. When a proxy looks clean across the table and lands at your door in days, it's an easy thing to recommend to your pod.

How Much Does an MTG Proxy Cost?

Design is free — you only pay for the printed cards. Upload your image, size it, and order. No design fees, no subscription.

Single cards start at $17.99, and packs scale up to $49.99 — the better value when you're proxying multiple staples or a full playtest set. Every order, regardless of size, ships free within the USA and includes a complimentary magnetic case. These are real printed cards on premium cardstock, not a PDF download, and standard production and shipping is two to three business days.

For $17.99 you get a real proxy on premium cardstock, a protective magnetic case, and free tracked shipping — with the design done for free. That's hard to beat against the cost of home printing or buying singles you only want to test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are MTG proxies legal to use?

It depends entirely on where you're playing. For casual games — kitchen-table Magic, Commander pods, and playtesting a deck before you buy singles — proxies are widely accepted, and most casual playgroups are happy to allow them. Many Commander tables specifically welcome proxies because the format is built around fun and expensive staples. However, proxies are not legal in sanctioned or competitive tournament play. Official Wizards of the Coast tournament rules require authentic cards, so you cannot use a printed proxy at a Friday Night Magic event, a competitive REL tournament, or any sanctioned competition. The simplest rule: proxies are for casual and playtest use, real cards are for sanctioned events. Always check with your playgroup or tournament organizer first.

What card stock do you print proxies on?

We print on premium cardstock with the weight, rigidity, and feel of a real trading card — not thin inkjet or photo paper. This is the same stock we use across all our custom cards, chosen specifically so the finished card holds its shape, survives repeated shuffling, and sits flush against genuine cards in a deck. It sleeves cleanly in standard penny sleeves or deck protectors, and it won't curl or warp the way a home-printed sheet does after a single game night. The result feels at home in your hand whether it's the only proxy in the deck or one of ninety-nine.

What size are the proxies?

Every proxy is printed at 2.5" × 3.5" (63mm × 88mm) — the exact standard Magic: The Gathering and trading-card dimension. That's the same size as a card you'd pull from a booster pack, which means your proxies fit standard sleeves, slide into the same deck boxes, and feel identical in hand next to real cards. You don't need special sleeves or oversized storage; anything that fits a normal Magic card fits a Snapshot proxy. Sizing is handled automatically when you upload, so you don't have to do any math or cropping to hit the dimensions.

Can I upload my own artwork or custom card designs?

Yes — this is the core of what we do. You're not limited to a database of existing cards. Upload any image: a scan of a real card, original artwork you made or commissioned, a custom commander, a full-art alter, a token, or a completely invented card. Whatever the image shows is what we print onto the card face. This makes Snapshot useful well beyond standard proxies — players design custom cards, joke cards for friends, and personalized alters that don't exist anywhere else. The only requirement is a clear, reasonably high-resolution image, since print quality follows the quality of the file you upload. If you can see it on screen, we can put it on a card.

How fast will my proxies arrive, and what does shipping cost?

Standard production and shipping is two to three business days, and that window starts when your order is confirmed — not from some future queue date. We print and fulfill domestically from our facility in Des Moines, Iowa, which is what makes that tight timeline possible: no overseas leg, no customs delays. Every order within the USA ships free and includes tracking, so you'll know exactly when your cards land. If you're proxying a deck for a specific game night or event, order four to five business days ahead to give yourself comfortable margin, though the two-to-three day window is usually quick enough for a weekend session.

Do you sell official Magic cards, or only printed proxies?

We only print custom cards from the images you upload — we are a printing service, not a card seller, and we are not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast. We don't stock or sell official Magic singles, and we make no claim that a printed proxy is an authentic card or tournament-legal. What you're buying is a high-quality printed card produced from your own uploaded image, on premium cardstock at standard card size. That's exactly why the upload-anything approach matters: you bring the image — whether it's a card you want to proxy for casual play or art you created yourself — and we turn it into a real, physical card shipped to your door.
