Modern smartphone cameras — even a few generations old — produce images with more than enough resolution for a 2.5" × 3.5" print. The biggest things to avoid are heavy blur from motion or low light, and very heavy digital zoom that degrades the image. A clear, in-focus shot taken in decent outdoor or indoor lighting will print well. If you can see the detail clearly on your phone screen, it'll look good on the card.
