Why screenshots print poorly
A screenshot captures your screen, not the photo. It is limited to your screen's resolution, often shrunk further by the app, and compressed again on top of whatever compression the photo already went through.
On a phone screen that loss is invisible. At print size — sharpened and fixed permanently at 2.5 by 3.5 inches — it shows up as softness, blockiness, and smeared detail. Print has no mercy for low resolution.
What to do instead
Nine times out of ten, the original still exists somewhere better. It is worth five minutes of digging before you settle.
- ✓Check the camera roll or cloud library for the original photo
- ✓Download the full-resolution file from the photographer's or team's gallery
- ✓Ask whoever posted it to send the original file, not a screenshot of it
- ✓On iPhone, share the photo as a file or use "options" to send full quality
When a screenshot is your only option
Sometimes the screenshot genuinely is all there is — a frame from a video, a moment captured mid-call, an image whose original is gone. In that case it can still become a card.
Take the screenshot at the highest zoom and brightness that keeps the subject clear, crop it tightly in the builder rather than before, and preview the card closely before ordering. If the preview looks soft, it will print soft.
