How card weight is measured
Card weight shows up in two units. Points (pt) measure thickness — one point is one-thousandth of an inch, so a 20 pt card is 0.020 inches thick. GSM (grams per square meter) measures the weight of the material itself.
A standard trading card runs about 20 to 24 points, which corresponds to roughly 250 to 300 gsm. Different makers describe it different ways, but they are talking about the same heft.
How that compares to everyday paper
For calibration: the paper in your home printer is about 75 to 90 gsm. A trading card at 250 to 300 gsm is three to four times heavier — and unlike paper, it is built as a rigid board rather than a flexible sheet.

Why weight matters for custom cards
Weight is the fastest way to tell a real card from a dressed-up photo print. A card with proper heft survives handling, trading, and decades in a case; a thin print creases and curls.
It is also a fit issue: sleeves, top loaders, and magnetic cases are sized for standard card weight, so a card printed to the true spec drops straight in. Custom cards on official trading card stock, like Snapshot's, match the retail standard exactly.
