The one question that decides it
Do you want different cards, or many of the same card? A Rookie Box is a set of up to 18 distinct designs. A Bulk Box is one design printed 25, 50, or 100 times. Nothing else about the choice matters as much as that.
Side by side
The two products differ in every practical way, all following from that one distinction.
- ✓Rookie Box: 1 to 18 cards, each its own design; $17.99 to $49.99; one magnetic case and a branded card box included
- ✓Bulk Box: 25, 50, or 100 identical cards; $37.99, $64.99, or $89.99; ships sleeved in a rigid mailer
- ✓Rookie Box holographic: $2.99 per card, capped at $14.99 per box
- ✓Bulk Box holographic: whole run, $14.99, $22.99, or $29.99
- ✓Rookie Box of 1 to 4 cards pays $5.00 US standard shipping; every Bulk Box clears the $30 free-shipping line
Typical uses
Rookie Box: a card of each kid, a card per season, an action shot plus a portrait, a team set with one card per player, a coach card to match. Bulk Box: a stack for a player to trade at a tournament, copies for grandparents and relatives, a fundraiser where the team sells cards at a markup, one design for an entire event.
Doing both
The two are not exclusive. A common order is a Rookie Box holding the season's different cards plus a Bulk Box of the one card the player wants to trade. Both boxes go in one cart, and the merchandise subtotal is what the shipping rule reads.
