Softball Gifts

Most softball gifts are baseball gifts with the word swapped. A custom card is not: it is her photo, her number, her position and her team, printed on real card stock and shipped in a display case.

A custom softball trading card made from a player's own photo

Who it is for

Rec, travel and fastpitch players from coach-pitch through college, plus coaches, team parents and the grandparents who drive to the tournaments.

What it costs

$17.99 for one card, $49.99 for the poster-sized MEGA

When to give it

End of season, tournament weekends, senior night, birthdays and Christmas. Travel softball runs most of the year, so the gift moments are spread out.

Softball gifts are usually baseball gifts wearing a different label

Anyone who has shopped for a softball player has noticed it: the search results are baseball products with the noun changed, and the ones that are genuinely softball are almost all the same three categories - a bat bag, a bow, or a sign for a bedroom wall.

That is a real gap rather than a small annoyance. Fastpitch players spend more weekends on a field than almost any other youth athlete, and the gift market treats the sport as a footnote to a men's game.

A custom card does not inherit that problem, because nothing about it is generic. The photo is hers, the position is hers, the team name is the one on her jersey, and the numbers on the back are the ones from her season. There is no version of it that could have been sold to a baseball player instead.

It also travels well through the parts of softball that generate the most emotion. Tournament weekends, the last game of a travel season, and senior night all produce a lot of photographs and very few objects. A card is the object.

When people give one

End of the travel season

A card per player at the last tournament, with the year and the team name. Team parents order the roster in one box, which is where the per-card price drops.

Senior night

Softball senior nights are heavily decorated. A card, or the poster-sized MEGA version, is the piece that goes home rather than into the recycling.

Tournament weekends

Made from a photo taken that weekend and given the following week. It is a small gesture and it works because the timing is so specific.

Christmas

Softball is quiet in December, which is why a card lands: it is the only thing in the pile that is about the sport she plays.

Coach thank-you

A card of the coach, or one from each player on the roster. Cheaper to organise than a group gift and much harder to throw away.

Grandparents

Bought for the player and then reordered three more times. A card fits on a fridge, in a wallet, or on a desk at work.

What to expect on delivery

Gift buyers are buying a date as much as a thing. Here is exactly what happens after you order, with no estimate we cannot stand behind.

Production

Cards go into production the same day you order and ship on the next business day.

Expedited

Priority and Overnight orders placed before the same-day cut-off on a business day ship that same day. The exact cut-off time is shown at checkout.

In transit

Delivery time on top of that depends on the carrier and the destination, and you see the carrier estimate before you pay.

Shipping cost

Free US standard shipping on orders $30+ — $5.00 flat under that. A Rookie Box of 5 cards is $31.99, which clears the bar on its own.

Pick a price, not a product

Every option below is the same card design; what changes is how it is presented and how many you get. Free US standard shipping on orders $30+ — $5.00 flat under that.

$17.99

One card

A single custom card in a magnetic display case. The stocking-stuffer size of this gift, and the one most people start with.

$31.99

A 5-card box

5 cards in one box, so the player keeps one and hands the rest to grandparents, coaches and teammates. This is the first tier that clears the free US shipping bar on its own.

$39.99

The Slab

One card sealed in a graded-style slab with its own label. Reads as a trophy rather than a card, which is why it does well as a season-ending or senior-night gift.

$49.99

MEGA poster card

The same design blown up to 11 x 15.4 inches on card stock. It is a wall piece, and it is the version that gets an audible reaction when it is opened.

Free US shipping over $30. Made in Des Moines, Iowa.

How you make one

1

Upload a photo

Any photo of the player from your phone works. We cut the background out automatically, so a busy sideline shot is fine.

2

Pick a template

Choose a card design, then set the name, number, position and stats. You are looking at the finished card the whole time, not a mock-up.

3

Order the print

Cards go into production the same day you order and ship on the next business day. Delivery time on top of that depends on the carrier and the destination, and you see the carrier estimate before you pay.

Questions gift buyers ask

What is a good softball gift for a player?

Something that is about her rather than about the equipment. Bats, bags and helmets are bought when they are needed, not when a birthday arrives. A custom softball card puts the player on the front of a real printed card with her own name, number and position, which is the one thing the sport does not otherwise hand out.

Why are there so few softball versions of baseball gifts?

Because most sports-gift catalogues treat softball as an afterthought and re-label baseball products. A custom card has no such problem: the design, the position, the team name and the photo are all yours, so nothing about it is borrowed from another sport.

Can I make cards for a travel team?

Yes, and travel softball is one of the most common team orders we take. A whole roster ordered in one box costs far less per card than families buying singly, and it gives every player the same object rather than whatever their parents happened to find.

What goes on the back of the card?

Whatever matters to that player - batting average, ERA, stolen bases, or nothing but the season and the team. For younger players most people skip statistics and put the year, the team name and the position.

Is this a good senior night gift?

It is one of the main reasons people order. Softball senior night is heavily decorated - banners, posters, photo tables - and a card or the poster-sized MEGA version is the piece that goes home afterwards rather than into a bin.

What does a softball card gift cost?

One printed card in a magnetic display case is $17.99. The poster-sized MEGA version is $49.99. Free US standard shipping on orders $30+ — $5.00 flat under that.

How fast does it ship?

Cards go into production the same day you order and ship on the next business day. Delivery time on top of that depends on the carrier and where it is going, and you see the carrier estimate before you pay.
